Fifteen years ago, Indian Sadhu Swami Shivananda had a metaphysical experience. He claims to have received instructions from God. His orders were to take up the gauntlet of Eco activism to protect the world's most sacred river – the Ganges. Clearly, this is no ordinary environmental protest.
"Satyagraha - Truth Force” is a feature documentary that tells the story of a group of humble Indian saints who believe the sanctity of their holy river - The Ganges - is being destroyed by corruption and a powerful mining lobby. They have been threatened, beaten, jailed and bribed. Two have died. Both were murdered, or so they believe. 'Satyagraha - Truth Force' follows the satyagraha or hunger strike of Swami Shivanand as he fights with his life to protect the river and attempts to find justice for his disciple whom he believes was poisoned.
Satyagraha, loosely translates as “Force of Truth" or "Soul Force". The purpose of Satyagraha is to unwaveringly stand up and defend the forces of truth and in the process liberate your would be opponent from forces of darkness. Among other things, Satyagraha has come to define a fast-unto-death.
